Foster Wheeler Ltd announced today that the methyl methacrylate (MMA) plant, designed and built for Lucite International Singapore Pte. Ltd. by its UK and Singapore subsidiaries in its Global Engineering and Construction Group, has started production ahead of schedule. This plant is the first in the world to use Lucite International UK Limited's proprietary state-of-the-art Alpha technology to produce MMA.
The new 120,000 tonnes per year MMA plant, which is already running at full capacity, is located on Jurong Island, Singapore, and will supply customers in Asia where demand for MMA has grown most rapidly. According to Lucite International, its Alpha technology offers 40 percent savings over existing technologies in both construction and production and has the potential to revolutionise the cost base of the MMA industry.
